Ajinkya Rahane wants to make a comeback to the Indian Test team. He believes that his batting will speak for him. Rahane last played for India in 2023 during the tour of the West Indies. Before that, he played in the World Test Championship final against Australia. He performed well but was still dropped. India chose younger players for the Test team.

Rahane’s Strong Performances in Domestic Cricket

Rahane returned to domestic cricket and has been in great form. In the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, he has scored 437 runs in 12 innings. He also hit a century in the quarterfinal against Haryana.

Before this, he was the top scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He made 469 runs in nine matches. His average was 58.62, and his strike rate was 164.56. This shows that Rahane is still playing well.

Rahane Opens Up About His Struggles

Rahane recently spoke about his struggles in an interview. He said that people advised him to stay in the news and speak up more.

“I was always shy, but now I have opened up. My focus was always to play cricket and go home. Nobody told me that staying in the news is important. Now, I understand that I need to speak about my hard work. I don’t have a PR team. My only PR is my cricket,” Rahane said.

His Goal: A Return to Test Cricket

Rahane said that he still wants to play Test cricket for India. He is playing in the Ranji Trophy and giving his best for the Mumbai team. He hopes to get another chance in the Indian team.

“When I was dropped earlier, I made runs and got selected for the World Test Championship final. Then, I was dropped again. But what can I do? My job is to play cricket,” Rahane said.

Watching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy From Home

Rahane was one of India’s best players in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He also led the team after Virat Kohli left. But this time, he had to watch the series from home. He found it difficult.

“It was tough to watch the series from home. I was dropped even after playing well. I still feel I can serve the Indian team. I have cricket left in me,” Rahane said.

Rahane is now leading Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Vidarbha on February 17. Fans are hoping he makes a strong comeback.
