Delhi Capitals Women are playing their second match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara. The big news for DC fans is that star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp is back in the playing XI after missing the opening game due to illness.
Kapp Returns, Niki Prasad Misses Out
Kapp’s return has strengthened Delhi’s squad as they look to build on their narrow win in the first match. However, her inclusion means that Niki Prasad has been left out. Apart from Kapp, Jess Jonassen has also made a return to the side, replacing Alice Capsey.
Before the match, Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning expressed confidence in her team despite losing the toss. She admitted that she would have preferred to bowl first, but also mentioned that teams batting first have done well in the tournament so far.
Captains’ Words at the Toss
Meg Lanning (DC Captain):
“Would’ve liked to have a bowl like most teams. But we’ve seen teams batting first do well. Wicket stays pretty similar throughout. Was nice to be able to hold our nerve and get over the line in the last match. Learnt a lot from that game. Kappy and Jess Jonassen come back into the team. Capsey and Nikki miss out tonight.”
Smriti Mandhana (RCB Captain):
“Would like to field first. Dew has been a big factor in the last couple of games. We’ve seen the wicket play better after the first 6-7 overs. Few things we could work on in terms of bowling and fielding. We had two good practice sessions. WPL isn’t like a long tournament where you have time to come back. Have to start well. One change for us. Ekta comes in.”
