Virat Kohli has once again made history, becoming the fastest batter to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He achieved this milestone during the Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan on Sunday. Kohli needed just 15 runs before the match to reach the landmark and got there in style, hitting a boundary off Haris Rauf.

Virat Kohli Leaves Sachin Tendulkar Behind

What makes Kohli’s achievement remarkable is the speed at which he has scored these runs. He reached the 14,000-run mark in just 287 innings, breaking the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who took 350 innings to reach the milestone. The only other batter to have crossed this number is Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.

Tendulkar remains the highest run-scorer in ODIs with 18,426 runs, but Kohli is closing in on Sangakkara’s tally of 14,234. With one more group-stage match left against New Zealand and a potential semi-final and final, Kohli has a strong chance of surpassing the former Sri Lankan captain to become the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history.

Another Record for Virat Kohli

Kohli’s record-breaking day didn’t stop with his batting. During the first innings, he also surpassed former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin to take the most catches for India in ODIs.

Before the match, Kohli was tied with Azharuddin at 156 catches. He took two catches during Pakistan’s innings, moving past the former captain to become India’s all-time leader in ODI catches.
