Veteran Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has been named the brand ambassador for the West Zone Finals of the SOGF Grandmasters Series. The tournament will take place on March 3-4, continuing its expansion across India.

According to a recent report by Hindustan Times, the SOGF Grandmasters Series has gained significant traction, with its South Zone 1 event in Bengaluru witnessing great success. This series, an initiative by the Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF), now moves to the West Zone, drawing a record number of participants.

The competition has attracted 1,50,000 registrations, establishing itself as a major skill-based mind sports championship in India. The online format of the tournament has led to widespread participation across multiple categories.

Rahane expressed his enthusiasm about the association, stating, “I am happy to join forces with SOGF to intensify the growth of mind sports in India.” He emphasized that “the strategic thinking, discipline, and problem-solving skills associated with mind sports will help nurture future-ready citizens, strengthening India’s competitive edge on a global stage.”

The tournament has witnessed massive engagement, particularly in two key categories. The Indian Rummy Grandmasters (IRG) saw 78,000 players competing in online qualifiers, with 150 finalists advancing to the next stage. Similarly, the Indian Chess Masters (ICM) had 3,500 registrations, with 32 players (16 men and 16 women) securing spots in the finals.

Another key highlight is the Indian Chess Masters for the Blind (ICMB), which selected 16 top players through zonal events. The All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) played a crucial role in conducting these qualifying rounds.

The SOGF Grandmasters Series continues to strengthen India’s position in skill-based mind sports. With Rahane as its ambassador, the West Zone Finals aim to further elevate competitive gaming in the country.
