Bengaluru police have registered a case against online betting platform 1xBet for illegally live-streaming the ICC Champions Trophy. Star India, the tournament’s official broadcaster, has accused the company of violating copyright laws by broadcasting matches without a license or agreement.

According to a report by Storyboard18, Star India has filed a First Information Report (FIR) seeking action against individuals involved in 1xBet’s operations in India. The FIR calls for the arrest of those responsible for facilitating the unauthorized telecast. Legal proceedings have been initiated under Sections 43, 66, and 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000, along with Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The case has been filed against unidentified individuals. Sources indicate that celebrities associated with 1xBet will be investigated to determine their role in its operations. Bollywood actor Urvashi Rautela is reportedly under scrutiny for endorsing illegal gambling platforms.

In its official complaint, Star India stated, “Any telecast, transmission, or streaming without the company’s express permission violates Star’s copyright and broadcast reproduction rights.”

Despite multiple government-imposed blocks, 1xBet continues to operate in India. Storyboard18 previously reported on several celebrities endorsing the platform despite regulatory restrictions. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued advisories urging a ban on advertisements promoting illegal betting and gambling websites.

1xBet is based in Cyprus and holds a license in Curaçao. The platform has been banned in multiple countries, including the US, UK, Russia, France, and Spain. Authorities have linked it to money laundering and illegal gambling activities, leading to global enforcement actions.

With legal action now underway, authorities aim to curb the presence of illegal gambling platforms in India. Investigations into 1xBet’s operations and its affiliations with Indian celebrities are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
