New Zealand created history in Lahore, smashing the highest-ever total in an ICC Champions Trophy knockout match during their semi-final against South Africa. The Blackcaps put up a massive 362/6 in 50 overs, setting a daunting target at the Gaddafi Stadium. This record-breaking total surpassed all previous scores in the tournament’s knockout stage.

Batting first, New Zealand got off to a steady start with Will Young (21) and Rachin Ravindra adding crucial early runs. The real damage, however, was done by Ravindra and skipper Kane Williamson, who both smashed centuries. Ravindra scored 108 off 101 balls, continuing his golden run in ICC tournaments, while Williamson played a captain’s knock of 102 off 94 balls. Their 164-run partnership laid the foundation for New Zealand’s big total.

Even after the dismissals of the centurions, New Zealand maintained their aggressive approach. Daryl Mitchell played a quickfire knock of 49 from 37 balls, and Glenn Phillips added the finishing touches with a blistering 49 off just 27 deliveries. Michael Bracewell chipped in with 16 before falling in the final over, but by then, New Zealand had already ensured a record-breaking total.

South Africa’s bowling attack struggled throughout the innings. Lungi Ngidi was their best performer with figures of 3/72, while Kagiso Rabada picked up two wickets but conceded 70 runs in his 10 overs. Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder also went for plenty, failing to contain New Zealand’s aggressive batting. The Proteas’ fielders had a tough day as they watched boundaries flow across the ground.

This total not only became New Zealand’s highest in an ICC knockout match but also the highest ever in ICC Champions Trophy knockout history. With their batters in top form, the Blackcaps have given themselves a strong chance to reach the final and continue their hunt for an ICC trophy.
