A 23-year-old garment shop owner in Ulhasnagar allegedly died by suicide inside his shop. His family suspects that financial distress caused by a cricket betting app may have played a role in his death. The police have initiated an investigation into the case.

According to The Times of India, the deceased has been identified as Puneet Nandwani, a resident of the VTC Ground area in Ulhasnagar. On Tuesday night, Puneet was found hanging inside his shop after failing to return home. His father, Hansanand, discovered his body when he went to check the shop after Puneet’s phone was switched off.

Hansanand mentioned that Puneet usually worked alongside him at the shop, but on the day of the incident, he was alone. “When he did not return home and his phone was off, I went to check. The shutter was closed but not locked. When I lifted it, I found my son inside,” he said.

The family stated they were unaware of the reasons behind Puneet’s decision. However, they suspect that financial troubles due to a cricket betting app could be a factor. They plan to approach the police for a thorough investigation after completing Puneet’s third-day rituals. “We do not understand why he took this extreme step. We will request the police to investigate the circumstances behind his death,” a family member said.

Authorities have seized Puneet’s mobile phone for investigation. The device is locked, and police are working to access its contents for further leads. The local Vithalwadi police have registered the case as an accidental death for now. “We will proceed with the investigation after recording the family’s statements,” a police official said.

Law enforcement officials will examine whether Puneet was under pressure due to financial losses or if any external factors contributed to his distress. With rising concerns over online betting platforms, authorities are expected to investigate the extent of his involvement in such activities.
