Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed recently shared an interesting moment from the Champions Trophy 2025 match against India. He revealed that he teased Virat Kohli to hit him for a six, but the Indian star remained calm and did not react.
A Dream Moment for Abrar Ahmed
India and Pakistan faced off in Dubai on February 23 for their second group-stage match. Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 111 balls to help India win by six wickets.
During the match, Abrar Ahmed bowled well and created trouble for the Indian batters. He later said that bowling to Kohli was a dream come true for him.
“My childhood dream of bowling to Kohli has come true in Dubai,” Abrar said. “It was a great challenge, and I teased him, asking him to hit me for a six, but he never got angry. Kohli is not just a great batter but also a great human being.”
Virat Kohli’s Praise for Abrar Ahmed
After the match, Kohli appreciated Abrar’s bowling by saying, “Well bowled.” The young spinner was delighted by this and mentioned that he had always dreamed of bowling to Kohli since his Under-19 days.
“He said, ‘well bowled’ after the match, and that made my day,” Abrar said. “I have grown up idolizing Kohli and always told my Under-19 teammates that one day I would bowl to him.”
Abrar Ahmed Celebration Controversy
Abrar Ahmed dismissed Shubman Gill with a brilliant delivery and finished with figures of 1/28 in ten overs. However, his celebration after taking Gill’s wicket did not go well with some former cricketers. He folded his arms and stared at the Indian batter, which was criticized by Wasim Akram.
Abrar later addressed the matter and apologized if anyone felt offended.
“No official told me that I did anything wrong, but if it hurt anyone, I am sorry. It was not my intention,” he said.
Abrar Ahmed will now be seen in action in the upcoming T20I and ODI series against New Zealand, starting from March 16.
