Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed has apologised for his celebration after dismissing Indian batter Shubman Gill during the India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 match. The match took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where India secured a six-wicket win.
Abrar bowled well in the game and took the wicket of Shubman Gill with a brilliant delivery. However, after dismissing Gill, he celebrated by folding his arms and giving him a stare. This celebration did not sit well with some former cricketers, including Wasim Akram.
After the match, Abrar spoke about the incident and apologised if his celebration hurt anyone.
“No official told me that I did anything wrong, but if it hurt anyone, I am sorry,” Abrar said. “It was not my intention to hurt anyone.”
Abrar also shared his excitement about bowling to Virat Kohli for the first time. He revealed that it was a dream come true for him, as he had always admired the Indian batter since his Under-19 days.
“He said, ‘well bowled’ after the match, and that made my day,” Abrar said. “I have grown up idolizing Kohli and always told my Under-19 teammates that one day I would bowl to him.”
Despite the controversy over his celebration, Abrar Ahmed had a good match, finishing with figures of 1/28 in ten overs. He will now be seen in action in the upcoming T20I and ODI series against New Zealand, starting from March 16.
