Harry Brook to Be Banned from IPL

Delhi Capitals will be without Harry Brook for the second consecutive IPL season as the England batter has pulled out of IPL 2025. Last year, he missed the tournament due to a family emergency, but his latest withdrawal could lead to a two-year ban from the IPL under the new player regulations.

Harry Brook Withdraws, Faces Possible IPL Ban

According to ESPNCricinfo, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) informed the BCCI last week about Brook’s unavailability, and the news was later shared with Delhi Capitals. The franchise bought him in the IPL 2025 auction for ₹6.25 crore, but now they will have to look for a replacement.

The IPL introduced a rule last year stating that if a player withdraws after being bought in the auction, he will be banned from the next two IPL seasons. This rule aims to prevent last-minute pullouts, which have been an issue in previous seasons.

Harry Brook’s Statement on His Decision

Harry Brook confirmed his withdrawal through a statement on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. He expressed regret over the decision but said he needed time to recover after a busy cricketing schedule.

“I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL,” Brook wrote. “I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters.”

“With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series.”

Brook is being considered as England’s future white-ball captain, especially after Jos Buttler stepped down. He was vice-captain for England in the India series and the Champions Trophy, and the ECB may be managing his workload carefully.

Delhi Capitals are set to start their IPL 2025 campaign on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam. However, they are yet to announce their captain for the season.
