Indian cricket fans received a big update from Rohit Sharma. He has confirmed that he is not retiring from ODI cricket after winning the 2025 Champions Trophy.
India Wins the 2025 Champions Trophy
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With this victory, Rohit Sharma became the first captain since MS Dhoni to win two ICC titles.
Before the final, there were many rumours about Rohit’s future in ODI cricket. He had already retired from T20Is last year. The next big ODI tournament is the 2027 World Cup, where he will be close to 40 years old.
Rohit Sharma’s Strong Response
During the post-match press conference, Rohit dismissed all retirement rumours. He made it clear that he has no plans to retire from ODIs.
“I am not going to retire from this (ODI) format. Going forward please don’t spread rumours,” he said, as quoted by PTI.
When asked about his future plans, Rohit replied, “No future plans. Jo ho raha hain, woh chalta jayega (Whatever is happening will keep continuing).”
Rohit Sharma’s Heroic Knock in the Final
Before the Champions Trophy, Rohit was struggling with form in Test cricket. His performance in the group stage was also not great. Many experts even suggested that he should change his attacking batting style.
However, Rohit silenced all critics with a brilliant knock in the final. He scored 76 off 83 balls, providing a strong start to India’s chase of 252 runs. His innings helped Shubman Gill (31), Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel play without pressure. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja hit a four on the last ball of the 49th over to seal the victory.
After the match, Rohit expressed his happiness.
“It is very nice. We played some really good cricket through the tournament. To come out here and have the result our way is a great feeling,” he said at the post-match presentation, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
He also spoke about his attacking batting approach.
“It is not natural to me, but it is something I really wanted to do. When you are trying something different, you need the backing of the team and the management, and they were with me throughout.”
With this win, Rohit Sharma has once again proved why he is one of India’s greatest captains.
