Delhi Capitals have suffered a setback as their new signing and captaincy contender, KL Rahul, is likely to miss the first few matches of IPL 2025. However, the good news is that he is not injured. According to reports, Rahul will be on paternity leave as he and his wife, Athiya Shetty, are expecting their first child in April.
The IPL 2025 season is set to begin on March 22, and Rahul’s absence in the initial games could affect Delhi Capitals’ plans. The franchise had high hopes for him as a key batter and potential captain for the season.
Delhi Capitals to Begin Preparations Soon
Delhi Capitals will start their training camp in Visakhapatnam on March 17 and 18. The team will play some of their home matches in Visakhapatnam before moving to their main home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Many star players, including Mitchell Starc and Jake Fraser-McGurk, will join the camp in Visakhapatnam. Faf du Plessis will also travel to Delhi for a short training session before heading to the main camp.
Axar Patel to Lead in KL Rahul’s Absence?
Delhi Capitals have not yet announced their captain for IPL 2025. KL Rahul and Axar Patel are the two main options. Since Rahul might miss the first two matches, Axar Patel is likely to lead the team.
The franchise will have to decide soon as the tournament is just around the corner. If Patel takes charge, it will be a big opportunity for him to prove his leadership skills.
