KL Rahul has refused to become the captain of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. The franchise had shortlisted him for the role, but he decided not to take it.

Rahul Prefers to Play as a Batter

According to reports, Delhi Capitals contacted KL Rahul for captaincy. However, the Indian batter chose to focus only on his batting. He did not want to take on the extra responsibility of leading the team.

With Rahul declining the offer, Delhi Capitals have now turned to Axar Patel. The franchise had considered both Rahul and Axar for the captain’s role. But now, Axar is set to lead the team in IPL 2025.

Axar Patel to Lead Delhi Capitals

Axar Patel has been part of Delhi Capitals for a long time. Though he has no IPL captaincy experience, the team management trusts him. His strong performances and leadership qualities have earned him the role.

Axar was also part of India’s Champions Trophy-winning team. Now, he will get a new challenge as the Delhi Capitals captain.

KL Rahul to Miss a Few Matches

Apart from refusing the captaincy, KL Rahul will also miss some early IPL 2025 games. This is not due to injury but for a personal reason.

Rahul and his wife, Athiya Shetty, are expecting their first child in April. Due to this, the star batter may be unavailable for a few matches at the start of the season.

Delhi Capitals will now prepare for IPL 2025 under Axar Patel’s leadership. Fans will look forward to seeing how the team performs with a new captain.
