Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has defended the cricketers of the 90s, saying they played a major role in shaping Pakistan cricket. His comments came after Mohammad Hafeez claimed that players from that era did not leave any legacy.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Replies to Hafeez

During a recent press meeting in Lahore, Inzamam was asked about Hafeez’s statement. He strongly disagreed and pointed out that most of Pakistan’s cricketing achievements after the 90s came from players of that generation.

“If we look at the players from the 90s generation, Pakistan cricket would lose its strength without them. If you see those who won something after the 90s, they also belong to that era,” Inzamam said.

He further stated that players from the 90s contributed a lot and such statements should not be made. “I don’t know what he said exactly, but everyone knows what the 90s cricketers have done for Pakistan,” he added.

Concerns Over Pakistan Cricket’s Decline

Inzamam also spoke about the recent struggles of Pakistan cricket. He said that the team’s performance has declined in the past two years, and the cricket board needs to make better decisions.

“We are not working in the right direction and making mistakes in many areas. The board must learn from past errors and avoid repeating them,” he said.

Pakistan’s performances in ICC tournaments have been disappointing in recent years. They finished just outside the top four in the 2023 ODI World Cup and failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage in the 2024 T20 World Cup after losses to the USA and India.

Inzamam stressed that if the right steps are not taken, Pakistan cricket will continue to struggle.
