The Acharya Chanakya Educational Foundation has raised concerns over Uber India’s alleged promotion of gambling platforms like 1xBet through advertisements displayed on taxis operated by its fleet partners, including Everest Fleet Pvt. Ltd.
According to a report by The New Indian, the Foundation’s Secretary sent a formal letter to Uber India’s Country Director, Yashovardhan Sharma, urging the company to discontinue all betting-related advertisements. The complaint highlights the potential dangers these promotions pose, particularly with the Indian Premier League (IPL) season approaching.
The letter demanded that Uber India immediately discontinue all advertising related to betting applications. The letter emphasized that promoting betting applications could have severe psychological and financial consequences, particularly among India’s youth. “A company of Uber’s reputation must refrain from supporting initiatives that threaten the nation’s future,” Sharma stated. He warned that such endorsements could push young Indians toward financial distress and addiction.
Sharma also stated “This influence will not only destroy lakhs of households but will pave the way of a dark and irreversible future of the youth of our country. A brand of Uber’s stature must not be associated with activities like jeopardize the future of the nation.”
The Foundation warned that if Uber fails to comply, a peaceful demonstration will take place at Uber’s headquarters on March 24. Additionally, legal proceedings and extensive media coverage will follow if the company does not act immediately.
The Acharya Chanakya Educational Foundation has called on Uber India to uphold corporate responsibility and safeguard public interest by ceasing gambling-related promotions. As of now, Uber has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
