Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made a strong start to their IPL 2025 campaign, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets in the season opener at Eden Gardens. Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB delivered a commanding performance with both bat and ball, securing a comfortable victory.
Chasing a target of 175, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Phil Salt set the tone with a brilliant 95-run partnership in just 8.3 overs. Salt played an attacking knock of 56 off 31 balls, while Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 deliveries, ensuring an easy chase. Despite losing a couple of wickets, RCB cruised to victory in just 16.2 overs, with Liam Livingstone finishing the match in style.
The game-changing moment came in KKR’s innings when Krunal Pandya turned the tide with a match-winning spell. At one stage, KKR looked set for a big total, reaching 107/1 in 10 overs. However, Krunal’s three-wicket burst, which included the dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, and Rinku Singh, derailed their innings. He finished with figures of 3/29 in four overs and was awarded the Player of the Match.
Speaking after the game, Krunal expressed his admiration for RCB’s passionate fanbase. He shared how the team’s massive support extends beyond the IPL, even in domestic cricket.
“It’s been amazing. When I joined the team, I realized how much madness there is. The crowd support you get, even in domestic cricket, people are chanting RCB. It’s been 10 days since I joined, and it’s been pretty good,” he said.
