TGCSB Blocks 133 Illegal Betting Apps in two months amid rising Online Scams

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has intensified its efforts to combat illegal online betting, blocking 133 betting apps in the last two months. The bureau has also served notices to multiple platforms amid rising online fraud cases.

As reported by The Hindu, TGCSB has been actively targeting unauthorized betting operations, identifying and blocking 108 illegal betting websites. Authorities have also sent notices to 133 platforms involved in illicit gambling activities. The bureau’s actions come as part of a larger initiative to curb financial fraud linked to betting apps and protect citizens from cyber threats.

Shikha Goel, Director of TGCSB, stated, “All these apps were geo-fenced by us in two months after noticing that online betting activities have been rampant on social media services and its portals. We have also started identifying unregistered hosts in India and abroad.” Officials highlighted the increasing use of social media platforms to promote betting, leading to significant financial losses among users. The TGCSB has been collaborating with multiple agencies to track and dismantle these illegal operations.

TGCSB has been monitoring digital transactions and unauthorized financial networks facilitating illegal betting. Many of these apps operate from foreign servers, making enforcement more challenging. The bureau is coordinating with national cybersecurity agencies to track these operations and ensure legal action against offenders.

Investigations have revealed that several blocked apps had ties to organized crime syndicates. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and report suspicious activities. TGCSB has also launched awareness campaigns to educate the public about the risks of online betting and provide guidance on avoiding fraudulent schemes.

In addition to blocking apps, TGCSB has started working closely with financial institutions to identify and shut down payment channels linked to illegal betting. Law enforcement agencies have been conducting cyber raids on suspected betting operators, confiscating digital assets and tracing money trails. The government has also been taking steps to impose stricter penalties on those found guilty of running illegal gambling networks.

The crackdown is part of a broader strategy to enforce cybersecurity laws and protect citizens from online financial scams. With increasing technological advancements, TGCSB aims to stay ahead of illegal betting networks and strengthen digital security measures in Telangana. Authorities have assured continued monitoring of online gambling activities and further regulatory measures in the coming months to prevent the resurgence of illegal betting platforms.
