Vipraj Nigam, a young leg-spin bowling all-rounder, made his debut for Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.

Who is Vipraj Nigam?

Vipraj Nigam is a 20-year-old cricketer from Uttar Pradesh. Delhi Capitals bought him for Rs. 50 lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah last year.

He gained attention during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, where he took eight wickets at an economy rate of just over seven runs per over. While he did not get many chances to bat, he played a brilliant eight-ball 27-run knock alongside Rinku Singh against Andhra, helping his team chase a 157-run target.

Impressive Domestic Performance

Before making his IPL debut, Nigam impressed in Delhi Capitals’ pre-season intra-squad match, where he scored 54 runs off 29 balls. His innings included seven fours and two sixes.

Nigam rose to fame during the UPT20 2024 tournament, where he took 20 wickets in 12 matches at a fantastic strike rate of 11.15. His brilliant performance earned him a place in the Uttar Pradesh domestic team across all formats. Since then, he has played three first-class, five List-A, and seven T20 matches in the 2024-25 season.

Bowling Strengths

Nigam has been effective while defending totals. In the UPT20 2024, he picked up 14 wickets in five innings while bowling second, compared to six wickets in six innings while bowling first.

He is skilled at bowling both the leg break and the googly. He took 13 wickets with his stock ball (leg break) and the rest with his googly.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, even though he did not take many wickets, he maintained a good economy rate of 7.12 runs per over.

How Will DC Use Him?

Nigam made a strong start in the IPL, dismissing Aiden Markram in his very first over against Lucknow Super Giants while conceding just 10 runs.
With Axar Patel as DC’s captain and Kuldeep Yadav in the team, Nigam will get good guidance.

His ability to bowl leg spin and contribute with the bat makes him a valuable player for Delhi Capitals. If given more chances, he can prove to be an asset for his team in IPL 2025.
