In light of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Andhra Pradesh’s Director General of Police (DGP), Harish Kumar Gupta, has issued a stern warning against cricket betting activities. According to The Times of India, the DGP emphasized that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in organizing or participating in betting operations.
The police department has intensified surveillance on both online and offline betting networks to curb these illegal activities. A special monitoring system has been implemented to track bookies and their movements, aiming to dismantle betting syndicates operating within the state. Authorities are maintaining vigilance over guesthouses, hotels, and other vulnerable spots where betting activities are suspected to occur.
DGP Gupta highlighted that cricket betting syndicates often target unsuspecting youth, luring them with promises of easy money. He warned that engaging in such illegal activities could lead to financial ruin and assured that strict legal measures would be taken against offenders.
The DGP also expressed concern over the growing popularity of online betting apps, particularly among students and young individuals. He urged parents to closely monitor their children’s online activities to prevent them from falling victim to these platforms. Emphasizing the importance of enjoying cricket purely as a sport, he advised the public to resist the temptation of betting, which could have detrimental consequences.
As the IPL season continues, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain the integrity of the sport and protect the well-being of the community.
