Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has demanded urgent action to recover ₹350 crore in pending dues from Goa’s land-based casinos. He called for the suspension of casino licenses until all outstanding payments are cleared.
According to a report by Herald goa, Alemao accused the state government of failing to enforce financial accountability in the casino sector. He urged authorities to act decisively, stating, “The government must ensure strict adherence to regulations and recover these dues without delay.”
Responding to these concerns, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured that efforts are underway to recover the pending dues before the end of the financial year on March 31. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring financial compliance. “We are taking all necessary steps to recover the dues, and strict action will be taken if required,” Sawant said.
Sawant also revealed that three casino licenses have already been suspended as part of regulatory enforcement. Additionally, he acknowledged that a portion of the pending revenue is tied up in court cases, which may affect the speed of recovery. So far, ₹110 crore has been collected from the outstanding dues.
Goa has 15 operational onshore casinos, and the issue of live gaming in these establishments was also raised. Sawant dismissed these claims, assuring that regular inspections are conducted to ensure compliance. “Any casino found violating regulations will face strict consequences,” he added.
