Advocate Krishnakant has filed a complaint with the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) seeking action against celebrities endorsing betting apps. He has urged the authority to impose strict penalties and ban such endorsements for three years.
According to a report by Hans India, Krishnakant’s complaint highlights the growing concerns over the influence of betting app advertisements on consumers, particularly younger audiences. He has requested the CCPA to impose fines ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh on celebrities who have promoted these platforms.
The complaint argues that betting apps often use endorsements from public figures to mislead consumers into believing these services are legitimate. Krishnakant emphasized that such promotions could lead to financial and psychological harm for users.
The advocate has called for stricter enforcement of advertising regulations to curb misleading promotions by celebrities and influencers. The CCPA has yet to respond to the complaint, but the demand for stronger action against betting app endorsements is gaining traction.
