India's esports revolution- Union Minister Raksha Khadse highlights growth at Esports Conclave 2025

The Esports Conclave 2025 was attended by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse. The event, organized by the Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) and supported by Krafton and Invest India, is aimed at discussing the future of esports and its potential to position India as a global leader in digital sports. The conclave comes at a time when esports is rapidly gaining traction across the country.

As reported by The Tribune, Khadse underscored the government’s strong commitment to promoting esports as a mainstream sport. She also highlighted how esports could play a vital role in boosting digital literacy and creating employment opportunities. “Esports is an emerging sector with vast potential for technological advancement,” said Khadse in her address.

The theme of the conclave, “Forging the Path to Global Leadership,” reflects the government’s ambition to integrate esports into India’s broader vision of becoming a key player in the global gaming ecosystem. The event also served as a platform to discuss policy frameworks, infrastructure development, and the promotion of Indian talent on the international stage.

Khadse emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s vision is to foster a strong sports culture in India, and esports is central to that initiative. She pointed out that esports was included as a medal sport in the 2022 Asian Games and will continue as a medal event in the 2026 Games in Nagoya. This highlights the growing recognition of esports on the global sporting stage.

The Union Minister also provided insights into the rapid growth of esports in India. “As of 2022, the number of esports players in India was around 600,000. This marks a 300% increase from the previous year,” Khadse said. Furthermore, projections suggest that the number of players will exceed one million in the next five years.

Industry leaders from across the country attended the conclave, including Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, and Amulya Sah, Senior Vice President of Invest India. The event also drew attention to the collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to unlock the full potential of esports in India.

Khadse hailed the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ decision to offer cash incentives to medal-winning esports athletes, calling it a landmark step in supporting the growth of the sector. This initiative demonstrates the government’s increasing investment in nurturing talent and promoting esports within India.
