Thane boy ends life after parents restrict mobile use over online gaming addiction

A 16-year-old boy from Thane, Maharashtra, died by suicide after his parents reportedly took away his phone to limit his  gaming addiction. The incident happened on Wednesday night in Nevali village, Ambernath taluka.

According to a report by the Times of India, the teenager had completed his Class 9 exams and was set to enter Class 10. They were concerned about his time spent on mobile games. On Wednesday night, they confiscated his phone to help him reduce screen time and improve concentration.

The boy, identified as Aman Shahoo, was upset about the phone being taken away. Later that night, he allegedly hanged himself. His parents discovered him in the morning and rushed him to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The Hill Line police have registered an accidental death report. Investigations are ongoing to confirm the cause and sequence of events.
