This turned out to be the lowest total ever successfully defended in IPL history. Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab captain, created history by becoming the only captain to defend such a small score.

Punjab Kings had a poor outing with the bat after being asked to bat first. Only Prabhsimran Singh (30 off 15) and Priyansh Arya (22 off 12) provided some quick runs at the top. The rest of the batters failed to build partnerships as Harshit Rana took 3 wickets, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine picked 2 each to bundle them out for 111 in just 15.3 overs.

In reply, Kolkata started badly and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 37 and Russell’s late 17, they couldn’t chase down the target. Yuzvendra Chahal was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets, while Marco Jansen got 3. Punjab Kings registered a historic win and gave fans a thrilling low-scoring contest.
