Rajasthan Royals came up with a complete performance with both bat and ball to complete the double over Chennai Super Kings in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League. Batting first, Royals put up 202 on the board, a total that appeared to be above par with Yashasvi Jaiswal stealing the show. With the ball, Adam Zampa made a successful return to the XI by bagging three key wickets and R Ashwin chipped in with two as CSK struggled to keep up with the required rate to eventually fall short by 32 runs.

Not often does someone take the spotlight away from Jos Buttler when he is still batting out there in the middle. But Jaiswal put on a show in the powerplay to stun the visitors with Buttler taking a backseat. The youngster hammered three fours off the first four balls of the match and took on Akash Singh again in his next over for three fours and a six as Royals raced to 42 in the first three overs. The onslaught continued as the home side eventually ended up scoring 64 in the powerplay. CSK on the other hand struggled to put the ball away in the powerplay when they came out to bat. Devon Conway endured a nightmarish outing as they made just 13 in the first three overs in contrast to RR’s 42. While Ruturaj Gaikwad helped them recover a touch, CSK still managed only 42 with Adam Zampa putting an end to Conway’s misery in the final ball of the powerplay.

MS Dhoni turned to Ravindra Jadeja immediately after the powerplay and Jaiswal’s response was a stunning switch hit that went all the way. He brought up a fifty off just 26 balls and continued to find the boundary despite losing Buttler at the other end to Jadeja. After 13 overs, Royals had already 125 on the board before Tushar Deshpande pegged them back with two wickets in a single over. Both Sanju Samson and Jaiswal perished after mistiming their shots as CSK attempted to apply the squeeze at the death.
