Over 10 arrested for selling illegal lottery in Ludhiana and Puducherry

Ludhiana police recently arrested 11 individuals for operating unauthorised lottery centres and selling fake lottery tickets to customers. The raids were conducted in nine different areas of the city, namely Dashmesh Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Bus Stand, Jain Colony, Cheema Chowk, Bihari Colony, Sutantar Nagar, Mayapuri and some other areas.

The arrested individuals are identified as Ghanayia Lal, Manish Kumar, Ranjit Singh, Sukhdarshan Singh, Naresh Kumar, Jaipal, Manjeet Singh, Satinderjit, Santosh Kumar, Mohammad Rihan and Davinder Singh.

The police said that these individuals used to sell fake lottery to customers in the form of handwritten notes with numbers. Acting on tip-offs, the police conducted joint raids to arrest these scammers, according to Hindustan Times.

All the arrested individuals have been charged under Sections 294-A, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code under Sections 13A, 3 and 67 of the Gambling Act and Lottery Act.

Meanwhile, last year in August, arrests for similar offences related to illegal lottery operation and gambling were made after a bust in the Janakpuri area of the city. The raid was conducted by SHO Inspector Arshdeep Kaur based on a tip-off from the locals. The police had arrested 22 individuals and recovered Rs 7,260 from the site along with fake lottery slips.

Two arrested for selling banned three-number lottery in Puducherry

In another case of lottery arrest, two people were arrested in Puducherry by Periyakadai police for selling the banned three-number lottery. The police received a tip-off about people selling the banned lottery tickets near Vidor Simonal Veedhi Government Hospital and acted quickly.

Upon reaching the spot they found two people selling the lottery tickets. They tried to flee from the spot but were caught by the police. During investigation, the police found out that there were others involved in the gang, too. It was revealed that Natarajan, Ilamurugan and Trichy were selling the three-number lottery of the Kerala State Lottery tickets on slips.

The police recovered four mobile phones, Rs 4930 in cash and three numbered papers from the arrested individuals. A case was registered under relevant sections against all the individuals following which they were produced in court and imprisoned, reported Dinamalar.
