Acting on a tip-off, Pratappur police arrested five individuals for their involvement in illegal IPL betting using the Mahadev Book app. The arrested individuals were operating from a house in Sarnapara village in Chhattisgarh.
During the raid, the police seized 25 mobile phones, three laptops and assets worth more than Rs 5 lakh that were being used to run the operation. Further investigation revealed another Rs 2 crore which were spread across 38 different bank accounts.
The police quickly froze the bank accounts, suspecting links with the Mahadev Book betting app. The police team and the Cyber Cell are monitoring these bank accounts further, reports Patrika.
The raid took place under the supervision of ASP Madhulika Singh and SDOP Pratappur Amolak Singh and was conducted by Cyber Cell and Pratappur Police after IG Ramgopal Garg recently issued instructions to all departments to look out for illegal betting.
The arrested individuals are identified as Bilas Singhare, Anil Yadav, Mohd Aman, Mohd Umar Ali and Vijay Chandrakar. All of them were charged under Section 6, 7 of the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022.
Chhattisgarh Police have also arrested five individuals in the Mahadev Book betting app case recently in the Kanker region. These individuals were also taking bets on IPL matches and provided users with IDs after successful payment.
The police seized Rs 3.5 lakh in cash during the raid and discovered transactions over Rs 2 crore taking place in this IPL season. All of them were arrested and charged under relevant sections.
Despite the government banning the Mahadev Book website, it appears that betting activities are still going on, possibly due to the mirror links that these illegal betting websites use to bypass the restrictions.
