PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony is currently focusing on PlayStation (PS5) exclusive titles and PC ports for those games will not be worked on any time soon.
“Sony fully understands the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. PlayStation Studios’ main responsibility is to have people enjoy the game experience using the latest PlayStation,” Ryan said in an interview. Further adding that the company increase the number of PS5-exclusive titles.
Ryan also said that even the players have said that 2–3 years delay in release for PC ports of a game is acceptable among players. Though we can assume that the player base to consult mostly consist of PlayStation gamers that do not want their exclusive games to lose their charm.
It is not surprising that the company will focus more on exclusives in order to compete with their rival Microsoft against whom they have been fighting the console wars and more recently protesting against their Activision Blizzard acquisition for over a year.
Sony have been very vocal in the Activision Blizzard deal and claims that it will disrupt the gaming market. Microsoft claims all the opposite saying they want to make the game accessible to as many gamers as possible.
The deal is currently approved by Brazil, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Japan, South Africa, and Ukraine along with the EU commission, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in US and the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) in UK is yet to give a green light to the deal.
Although the quality of is PS5 is actually very impressive comparing to recent AAA game releases, but with the recent quality of PC port of The Last of Us Part 1, it might be a good idea for PC players to actually wait a while for properly optimized games.
