Microsoft, the parent company for Xbox, has announced an increase in the prices of Xbox game pass for regular and ultimate along with the increase in price of Xbox Series X.
Starting July 6, players will have to pay $10.99 / £8.99 up from $9.99/ £7.99 for regular game pass while game pass ultimate users will have to pay $16.99 / £12.99 instead of $14.99 / £10.99 per month. The only countries that will not see a price hike in game pass are Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia.
The Xbox Series X is also getting around 11% increase in its current price, going up from £449 / AU$749 to £479.99 / AU$799.99. The new console prices will be implemented starting August 1. Some counties are not getting an increase in price, these include the US, Japan, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia. Its counterpart, the Series X will not see any change in price.
Have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market: Kari Perez
Head of gaming communications at Microsoft, Kari Perez said, “We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market,” in a statement to Video Games Chronicle.
While a dollar increase in game pass price might not affect everyone, for some people it may shake up the budget a little, especially for students with part-time jobs. There currently are no plans to increase the price of game pass for PC in any country, so PC players are safe.
In terms of console, a 10%-12% increase is also reasonable, but we suggest people to get one now if they can. India will also see a price hike for the Xbox Series X since it is not among the excluded countries.
Players looking to buy Xbox Series X can get it here for Rs 55,490 before the price is increased.
