Mumbai: 45 arrested for illegal gambling, Rs 34 lakh seized

A raid led by the crime branch of Mumbai police at a 4-BHK flat in Khar on December 2 resulted in the arrest of 45 individuals, 12 of whom were women, for alleged involvement in illegal gambling.

The raid was headed by inspector Daya Nayak who received a tip-off regarding an illegal gambling establishment being located on a fifth floor flat of a residential building. Complaints from residents of the building regarding the flow of several people also raised suspicion.

At the time of the raid, the flat accommodated 38 customers, who were partaking in games like poker and teen-patti. Three jockeys, along with four partners, were also taken into custody during the raid.

The amount seized is substantial – Rs 34 lakh in cash along with plastic coins that were used for gambling estimated to be worth over Rs 1 crore. These plastic coins were colour-coded as per their value and distributed to people for the purpose, reported The Times of India.

The Khar police station has filed a complaint against the individuals arrested, however they have now been released on bail. The owner of the property is on the run and is suspected of organizing the entire operations.

Mumbai Crime Branch also working on Mahadev Book case

The crime branch also recently took over the Mahadev Book illegal betting app case, which is considered to be the largest illegal betting network in India at the moment, from Mumbai police. As of now, a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to further investigate the matter.
