Union Home Minister Amit Shah has once again linked the Mahadev App to the Congress, accusing it of involvement in illegal gambling. Speaking at a Bharatiya Janata Party convention in Delhi, Amit Shah stated that during the Congress rule in Chhattisgarh, the Mahadev app was operational. Prior to this, during the Chhattisgarh elections, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the local BJP raised the issue of people being lured into gambling through the Mahadev app. Addressing over 11,000 party workers and leaders at the BJP convention, Amit Shah highlighted the corruption rampant in opposition parties, stating that the same family has been ruling for generations.
Speaking out against online gambling operators before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is a significant move by the Home Minister. Alongside cracking down on the Mahadev app scam, the government is also taking strict measures against other apps involved in online gambling, which operate through various marketing channels.
The central government has taken a firm stance against online gambling in the country. While the Mahadev app has been banned, its channel partners are also being apprehended. Furthermore, action is being taken against banks and other entities involved in facilitating money transactions for these platforms.
It’s noteworthy that the Mahadev app is infamous as one of the most notorious gambling apps in the country, originating in Chhattisgarh and gradually spreading nationwide. At the time of its inception, the Bhupesh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh did not take any action against it. Later, a person named Akash Soni accused former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of accepting 503 crore rupees.
As law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies step up efforts to combat this growing issue, it is imperative for policymakers to adopt a multifaceted approach that combines stringent enforcement measures with robust awareness campaigns and proactive regulatory frameworks to safeguard citizens from the perils of online gambling.
