A man in his late thirties, identified as Ramu, from the Thiruthani Periyar Nagar area, committed an act that led to death over a gambling debt in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu.
As reported by Asianet News, Ramu ran a pawn shop, had incurred debts due to his online gambling habits, amounting to over Rs. 10 lakhs. Unable to repay the debt, he found himself in critical condition. Sources suggest that Ramu’s financial dues drove him to desperation, leading to the tragic incident.
The incident occurred when Ramu’s acquaintances learned about his financial situation and attempted to recover the debt by pressuring him. Feeling cornered and overwhelmed, Ramu resorted to measures. He lured one of his creditors to a secluded spot near a canal, where he committed the act.
Further investigations reveal that prior to the incident, Ramu’s friends gave him a phone to help him pay off his debt. It’s believed that Ramu used this smartphone to engage in online gambling, compounding his financial troubles.
Ramu’s family and friends were left in shock and disbelief. They described him as a responsible and caring individual who had never shown violent tendencies before.
Local authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the matter. The Arakkonam police have sent the victim’s body for post-mortem examination and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the offender.
