The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a fresh selection committee following their national team’s two back-to-back group stage exits in World Cups.

In a surprising move, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB has brought both Pakistan’s coach Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie onto their selection committee along with few other members.

“Pakistan’s new selection committee to include both the coaches – Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten – along with Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Yousuf. The captain of relevant format will also be the part of the selection committee,” a report stated.

Notably, PCB sacked former pacers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their post in the selection committee in the aftermath of Pakistan’s debacle in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Babar Azam-led team’s hopes of reaching the Super 8 were dashed after losses to the USA and India in the group stage during the T20 World Cup 2024. It was India and USA, who made it to the Super 8 from Group A.

After Pakistan‘s disappointing World Cup performance, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi took strict action, describing it as a necessary ‘surgery’ on the team. The first big move following this statement was the sacking of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq.
