The India vs South Africa series, played in 2000 has been investigated over match-fixing allegations. The matter has been taken to court, and four individuals have been accused of trying to fix the matches.

The Delhi Court recently confirmed that some games in the Test and ODI series were fixed. Notably, this series, consisting of two Tests and five ODIs, took place from February 19 to March 19, 2000.

The court found that the first Test in Mumbai, held from February 24 to 28, was rigged by South Africa. It also noted that the second Test in Bengaluru, scheduled from March 2 to 6, was nearly fixed by Hansie Cronje.

Adding to that, the court called out the first ODI in Kochi on March 9 as a clear case of match-fixing.

“The conversation recorded on March 16, 2000, wherein Hansie Cronje demands outstanding payment and Hansie Cronje’s statement before the King’s Commission admitting receiving money from Sanjeev Chawla, clearly prove that the 1st One-Day International was a fixed match,” said Delhi Court in verdict as quoted by India Today.

“The statement by Hansie Cronje made before the King’s Commission that he had informed Sanjay (alias Sanjeev Chawla) about losing the first One-Day International is further corroborated by the statement of others made before the King’s Commission,” the court further added.

South Africa won the Test series 2-0, while India took the ODI series 3-2.
