George Bailey, the national selector for the Australian cricket team, announced that David Warner will not be part of the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Warner ended his international cricket career for Australia following the T20 World Cup 2024. His last appearance came in a match against India, which the Men in Yellow lost by 24 runs.

Australia did not make it to the semi-finals of the tournament, which meant the end of Warner’s international career. However, he hinted at a return for next year’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Here’s what George Bailey said:

“Our understanding is that David is retired, and should be commended on what has been an incredible career across all three formats. Certainly, our planning is that he won’t be there in Pakistan,” Bailey said.

“You never know when Bull’s joking…think he’s just stirring the pot a bit. He’s had a wonderful career, can’t celebrate it enough, and think as time goes by, his legacy of what he has done for Australia and we reflect back on that, the legend of a player is only going to continue to grow. But as far as this team goes and the journey to transition to some different players, in his case across all three formats, it’s going to be exciting,” he added.

Australia has named their squads for the limited-overs series against Scotland and England, with Mitchell Marsh set to captain both the T20I and ODI teams as Pat Cummins takes a rest. Jake Fraser-McGurk is included in both squads, and he will be looking to secure his spot at the top of the order following Warner’s retirement.
