Amid reports that India may skip the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly asking the BCCI to provide official written proof that the Indian government has denied permission for the team to travel to the neighbouring nations.

The primary reason India has not visited Pakistan for over 16 years is the political tension between the two neighbouring countries. In 2023, when Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup, the tournament had to be played in a hybrid model to accommodate India‘s participation.

Once again, the BCCI may face challenges in obtaining government clearance to send their team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, citing concerns over player safety. Hence, PCB has requested the BCCI to provide written proof from the Indian government regarding the denial of travel.

“If the Indian government declines permission, it has to be in writing, and it is mandatory on the BCCI to provide that letter to the ICC now,” the PCB source working closely with the organizing committee was quoted as saying by India Today.

“It is a fact that we are insistent that the BCCI must inform the ICC about its travel plans to Pakistan at least 5-6 months before the tournament and in writing,” the top PCB source also stated.

When Will Champions Trophy 2025 Start?

The Champions Trophy is back after an eight-year break, with Pakistan hosting the tournament for the first time as defending champions. A preliminary schedule has been sent to the ICC, placing India and Pakistan in the same group. It will be played from February 19 to March 9.
