Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who opted out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka for personal reasons, is now ready to captain Team India in the upcoming three-match T20I series.

Had Hardik Pandya stepped aside, Suryakumar Yadav would have been a strong candidate for the leadership. Now, with Hardik’s return, Suryakumar will need to step back.

“Hardik Pandya has already informed the Indian cricket board about his availability for the Sri Lanka series, and he will be returning home after playing the three T20Is. There are no injury concerns whatsoever and he is completely fit. He wanted the leave due to personal reasons and has been granted the same,” said the source.

“There have been no injury concerns since that freak injury in the World Cup. He has played the complete season of the IPL without any discomfort and was in top shape during the T20 World Cup. That’s nearly three months of non-stop cricket,” it added.

Starting from July 27, India is scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODIs against Sri Lanka. Also, this tour marks Gautam Gambhir’s debut as the India head coach, following the second-string Indian team’s successful return from Zimbabwe, where they clinched the T20I series 4-1.
