According to a report, the newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and the selection committee have mutually decided to hand over the captaincy to Suryakumar Yadav instead of Hardik Pandya.

Notably, Hardik Pandya has always been the stand-in captain for the Indian cricket team in the absence of the former captain Rohit Sharma, and he was appointed as the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup 2024. 

All these developments suggested that Hardik Pandya was being looked upon as the next T20I captain of Team India. However, Suryakumar Yadav being preferred over him is a shock to many.

Why Suryakumar Yadav is Preferred Over Hardik Pandya?

As per reports, the management is looking to manage the workload of Hardik Pandya, the star Indian all-rounder, who is no less than an asset for the Men in Blue. Hence, they want to hand over the captaincy duties to Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar Yadav to Lead India in Sri Lanka T20Is

Meanwhile, while there were reports that Hardik Pandya, who made himself unavailable for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, was available for the three-match T20I series where he was set to lead the team, the latest media news reported that it is Suryakumar Yadav who is being looked at as the captain for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka for the three-match T20I series.

The T20I series against Sri Lanka is scheduled from July 27 to 30 in Pallekele, followed by the ODIs from August 2 to 7 in Colombo.
