Gautam Gambhir, newly-appointed head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, stated on Monday that his relationship with Virat Kohli is a private matter and not for public entertainment.

Gambhir and Virat Kohli‘s on-field confrontations have always been the talk of the town. However, they were seen hugging after a game between KKR and RCB, with a clip of their engaging chat going viral online.

When asked about his relation with the ex-Indian captain, here’s what Gambhir told the media:

“My relationship with Virat Kohli is between the two of us and not for TRP.”

“At the moment, we are representing India; we are representing 140 crore Indians. We have an excellent relationship with him off the field. But it’s not for the public. It’s not important how many chats I’ve had with him during or after the game. He is a thorough professional, a world-class athlete, and hopefully he will continue that way,” Gambhir added.

However, the duo will now work together, beginning with the T20 and ODI tour of Sri Lanka starting on July 27. Initially unavailable, Virat Kohli has now made himself available for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
