Why Hardik Pandya Wasn’t Chosen as India’s T20I Captain?
At a press conference held on the day the team flew to Sri Lanka, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained why Hardik Pandya was not given the T20I captaincy.
According to Ajit Agarkar, concerns about Hardik Pandya’s fitness influenced the decision. He also mentioned that insights from the dressing room led to the conclusion that Suryakumar Yadav was the right choice to lead India in the shortest format of the game.
Rift between Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav?
There have been reports of a rift between Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya since the Baroda all-rounder was appointed as captain of the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma.
Suryakumar Yadav was visibly unhappy with the decision and posted cryptic messages on social media. Additionally, during IPL practice sessions, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav were rarely seen practising together.
However, these reports faded after Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024. It will be interesting to see how the duo performs together for India, especially following the management’s decision to appoint Suryakumar Yadav as captain.
