The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to undergo significant changes as franchises gear up to meet with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later this month. The primary focus of the meeting will be the upcoming mega auction scheduled for IPL 2025.

Franchises are reportedly seeking a more extended period between mega auctions, proposing a shift from the current three-year cycle to a five-year cycle. This change aims to provide teams with ample time to build a stable core and nurture young Indian talent.

Increase No. of Retentions and RTMs

Additionally, there is a strong push to increase the number of retentions from the current four to six players per team. To further bolster team building, franchises are also advocating for an increase in the number of Right to Match (RTM) options from the previous auction.

The meeting is also expected to discuss the implementation of a salary cap, which could significantly impact team-building strategies. Furthermore, the highly debated Impact Player rule will be on the agenda, with franchises looking for clarity and potential modifications.
