Arshdeep Singh was one of the best bowlers for India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets.

Given Arshdeep’s progress, the selectors are now contemplating including the left-arm pacer in the squad for the upcoming Test tour of Australia.

“Arshdeep has moved the ball impressively in white-ball matches for India. He could be asked to play a few domestic red-ball games, starting with the Duleep Trophy on September 5, to enhance his chances of selection for the Australia tour. There’s a real chance that he could be India’s trump card, along with (Jasprit) Bumrah, in Australia.

“In fact, the selectors are keen on another left-arm pace option in the white-ball side at least, which is why Khaleel Ahmed toured Zimbabwe and has been picked for both the ODIs and T20Is in Sri Lanka,” Times of India quoted a source as saying.

Team India will be touring Australia for a five-match Test series, marking their first such series since 1992. The opening Test is set for Perth on November 22, with the second, a day-night Test, in Adelaide beginning December 6.

The third Test match will begin on December 14 in Brisbane, with the Boxing Day Test slated for December 26 in Melbourne. The series will wrap up with the fifth Test in Sydney, beginning January 3.
