India’s young batting prodigy, Shubman Gill, is likely to be named the new vice-captain for the Test team. The BCCI is preparing to make this announcement in advance of India’s series against Bangladesh.

Gill has recently been given the role of vice-captain for India’s ODIs and T20Is on the Sri Lanka tour. During this series, Suryakumar Yadav will be the T20I captain and Rohit Sharma will lead the ODI team.

Shubman Gill is expected to be appointed as India’s vice-captain for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, according to recent reports. Rohit Juglan from Revsportz verified the news in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, in a recent media interaction, Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of the Indian cricket team revealed the reason behind choosing Gill as India’s next vice-captain. Here’s what he had said:

“Shubman is a guy we feel is a three-format player, firstly. And he seems to show a lot of good qualities over the last year or so. That’s why we wanted to have somebody who can also learn from a couple of senior guys who are there. Surya is there. Rohit is still around. We don’t face the same challenge again — suddenly try and look for a new captain in case there is an injury or loss of form.”

This confirms that Shubman Gill will assume the vice-captaincy for every format for India. The progress of Gill from a talented batter to leading the world’s most followed team is truly impressive.
