During the second day’s play of the third Test against the West Indies at Edgbaston, England batter Joe Root overtook Brian Lara to claim the position of the seventh-highest run-getter in Test cricket.
The legendary Brian Lara retired with 11,953 Test runs accumulated over 131 matches and 232 innings. Joe Root has eclipsed Lara’s record in his 143rd Test match, reaching this achievement in his 261st innings.
The former captain of England has advanced to 7th place in the rankings for Test run-scorers. He now stands behind Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Alastair Cook, and Kumar Sangakkara.
