Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara is in line to become the next white-ball head coach of the England cricket team.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been searching for a new candidate since the England team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Earlier, there were reports that Andrew Flintoff had also been approached to replace Matthew Mott as head coach of the England cricket team.
England has faced back-to-back failures in World Cups. They failed to qualify for the semifinals in the ODI World Cup 2023 and then missed out on qualification in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Sangakkara has been the director of cricket for Rajasthan Royals since 2021 and has worked closely with Jos Buttler, so he would be familiar with some faces if he takes over as the white-ball coach of the England team.
It will be interesting to see whether Kumar Sangakkara is ready to take on the challenge of coaching the England cricket team or if the ECB will need to consider other candidates.
