The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had a long meeting with all the 10 owners of the IPL teams on Wednesday, July 31, where they discussed the upcoming mega auction, rules, and guidelines.
As per a report, a majority of teams want a mega auction to happen this year. These teams are Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans.
On the other hand, teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Punjab Kings do not want a small auction to happen and rather prefer the mega auction to continue.
The owners of teams like CSK, RR, SRH, and Mumbai Indians do not want to let go of the players they have nurtured and prepared for years, and they want their core to remain with them.
On the other hand, teams like RCB, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are eager to go with the mega auction and start from scratch again to build a strong team.
BCCI to Take Decision on August 31
Apart from this, the number of retentions was also discussed in the meeting. While the aforementioned teams like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals are in favour of a majority of retention, teams like RCB, DC, and LSG want minimum retention.
Meanwhile, the BCCI will consider all the suggestions from all the teams and will take a final call by August 31.
