Rohit Sharma has discussed the “sweet headache” he faces as the captain ahead of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, particularly when it comes to selecting the wicketkeeper-batter.

Both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been included in the squad for the series, but only one can play at number five and keep wickets for India.

KL Rahul was dropped from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad due to concerns about his mindset and approach in the shortest format of the game, but this is not the case for the 50-over format.

Rahul has impressive ODI numbers, with 2820 runs in 70 innings at an average of 51 and a strike rate of 88. If selected, Rahul will be playing his first international match since the IPL 2024.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant’s ODI numbers are less impressive. In 26 innings, he has scored 811 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 106.

Just ahead of the first ODI match, Rohit Sharma stated that both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are match-winners, making it a challenging decision for the team management to choose one for the playing XI.

Here’s what Rohit Sharma told RevSportz:

“It is difficult to choose between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant; both are match-winners in their own way, but it’s a happy problem, and I want to have that kind of problem.”

The first ODI match between India and Sri Lanka will be played on August 2 at Pallekele Stadium.
