Wasim Akram has reportedly turned down an offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a CEO position within the board. The apex body is on the lookout for a strong leader to manage cricketing affairs moving forward.
Cricket Pakistan reports that he was approached for the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or as an advisor to the chairman. However, the former Pakistan pacer turned down the PCB offer, citing family obligations. Akram lives in Karachi and frequently visits Australia.
Following Akram’s refusal, the PCB contacted Waqar Younis, who lives in Australia, for the same role. The former Pakistan coach has expressed interest in the responsibilities and agreed to return to Lahore for further discussions.
It should be noted that the new PCB constitution does not presently feature a CEO role. However, the board could amend it to place Waqar in this position, or alternatively, as the Adviser for Cricket Affairs to Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
