Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, says he’s not scared of taking risks with his batting and plans to keep playing aggressive cricket. This statement from the ‘Hitman’ comes after India’s 32-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the second ODI.

India had to chase down 241 runs to win, and although their captain Rohit Sharma got off to a great start with 64 off 44 balls, the team fell apart embarrassingly.

Neither Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, nor KL Rahul made an impact with the bat, which was a major reason for their defeat. Jeffrey Vandersay, Sri Lanka’s leg-spinner, wreaked havoc with his six-wicket haul.

Here’s what Rohit Sharma said in the post-match conference:

“The reason I got 64 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that there is bound to be risk taking and I’m not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50, or zero you feel disappointed if you don’t get across the line. But that won’t change my intent. We didn’t play good cricket, that’s why we lost the game.”

‘We Have to Play Consistent Cricket to Win Matches’ – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma further mentioned that to win games, they need to perform well as a team and stay consistent. He also talked about the shaky batting lineup, with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul batting at six and seven. The idea was that having a left-right combo would help, but it didn’t work out.

“If you want to win games, we understand we have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that today. Disappointing, but these things happen. You have to adapt to what’s in front of you. With left-right, we felt it’d be slightly easier to rotate the strike, but that didn’t happen. Credit to Jeffrey, who bowled well and picked six wickets. Sri Lanka played really good cricket,” he added.

With the first match ending in a tie and Sri Lanka winning the second ODI, the third and final game is now a must-win for India to level the series. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be aiming to win it and take the series.
