Former England pace star James Anderson is considering a return to T20 cricket and exploring opportunities in franchise leagues after seeing the bowling-friendly wickets in The Hundred 2024.

James Anderson, one of the finest fast bowlers in cricket history, recently retired from Test cricket after playing the first match against the West Indies. This decision came after head coach Brendon McCullum made it clear that the team was looking beyond him to give opportunities to younger players.

Despite being sidelined, Anderson is currently serving as a mentor for the England Test team during the ongoing home season, a role that will conclude after the Test series against Sri Lanka.

Additionally, Anderson was recently spotted playing for Lancashire in county cricket to stay active and ready for any potential opportunities that may arise.

“I still want to play T20 cricket. Things will become clearer in the remaining months of the year. I’m not sure about continuing as England’s mentor during the winter,” Anderson said on the Final Word Cricket Podcast.

“I saw the ball swinging in The Hundred 2024. I feel I can contribute as a player in the tournament. I’m not sure if it’s the best option, but I am looking for a role in white-ball cricket. I’ve never been involved in franchise cricket,” he added.

Anderson last played T20 cricket in 2014, and since then, he has focused solely on red-ball cricket. Throughout his T20 career, he has competed in 44 matches, taking 41 wickets at an economy rate of 8.47.
